Guitarist talks about his health.
In an interview with the Birmingham Mail, Black Sabbath guitarist Tony Iommi spoke about Black Sabbath's final tour, which was announced last week. According to the musician, "The End" will definitely be the band's last tour: "I can't do this anymore, my body can't take much more .
Iommi, who has been recovering from cancer since 2011, says he fears the disease will return: “I don’t want the cancer to come back. I love doing shows, but it’s the travel and the exhaustion that get in the way. That side of things has a very strong impact on me. Yes, we fly in luxury, stay in the best hotels, but it’s very tiring. I have to have blood transfusions every six weeks, and it’s always very hard.” Iommi continues: “I love being on stage, playing with Sabbath, what I don’t love is everything that’s required for that to happen. None of us are getting any younger, you know?”
The dates for the US and Australian shows have already been announced, but more shows will be revealed next month. Regarding the setlist, Iommi anticipates: “We’re going to bring together classics from across our career, from our early days in Birmingham. All the favorites will be revisited and we’re excited to include rarities as well.”
